Angelo Negro

The Negro family has been cultivating vineyards on the Roero hills since 1670, and they work to fully interpret the potential of this corner of Piedmont, dedicating their wines to prestigious native grape varieties, enhancing the identity of each one. Nowadays, everything still continues to be run at family level: owner Giovanni Negro is flanked by his wife Maria Elisa and their four children, Gabriele, Angelo, Emanuela and Giuseppe, who have all enthusiastically adopted the same philosophy.

Giovanni Negro is being called the "papà" of Arneis, as he was the first producer in Roero who started vinifying Arneis back in 1971. His Roero Arneis was the first that was produced from own grape vines in the region. Except the beautifully flinty and crisp Roero Arneis, Giovanni is also a specialist in producing excellent Nebbiolo in Roero. His Roero Riserva 'Ciabot San Giorgio' and Riserva 'Sudisfà' are often winners of Gambero Rosso "3 Glasses" award.

After gaining successes in 1980s, Giovanni soon swifted his attention to Neive (Barbaresco). He acquired 4 ha. of Basarin vineyard, which was once owned by the local parish priest (Monsù don Cogno). The vines were planted in 1951 and it is now one of the oldest Barbaresco vineyards in Neive, with an average vine age of 60 years. The production of Barbaresco 'Basarin' is around 10,000 btls per year and that of the Barbaresco Riserva is only 3,000 btls.
