Domaine Remi Jobard

Remi Jobard, son of Charles Jobard and nephew of Francois Jobard, is now running this truly family run operation. Remi has been looking for aromatic purity and certainly delivers it. The entire vineyard is cordon-pruned, so yields are naturally limited. There has been no use of fertiliser since 1994, and the vineyard has been certified organic since 2011.

Remi Jobard’s wine tastes like a really excellent Meursault - not surprising since all of his Bourgogne parcels directly adjoin either villages Meursault or 1er cru Meursault. He makes four unique lieu-dits: Sous la Velle, Les Narvaux, En Luraule and Chevalieres of 75 year old vines. The three Premier Crus are also exceptional for their expressiveness. The Poruzots is the most opulent and forward, with a real wallop of unctuous, juicy Meursault fruit. The Genevrieres parcel is very old vines with which Jobard makes his most mineral, terroir-filled Meursault. Finally, the Charmes, presents a culmination, a synthesis of all the strong points of all his other wines in a package of near pure perfection.

To enhance the mineral character of Meusault over that of sweetness or bitterness, Remi ages all his wines part in tight-grained 1000L, 1200L or 1500L barrels from the Austrian cooper, Stockinger, and the other part in barriques only from Stockinger. Stockinger’s casks contributed to the elegance and certainly persistence of the wines.
